Believing that music was his life's calling, Derek began at the age of 12 appearing at local talent shows, an by the age of 16, got the chance to appear with the legendary singer Smokey Robinson. Derek attended the Chicago Music Conservatory, where he studied Music Theory and vocal training. Derek established a musical reputation at an early age as a lyricist and multi-talented Entertainer who could not only sing and dance, but double on keyboards, drums, and bass guitar. Derek is based mainly out of Las Vegas, and has performed at virtually all of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. In addition to working as an Entertainer, Derek is one of the most sought after DJ's in the area. He is currently producing local acts in his recording studio and working on his third album project. Derek
James was raised in Chicago, Illinois. He was the fourth child from a
family of nine children. Derek first demonstrated his musical talents as
early as Kindergarten, when he recognized his teacher was playing the wrong
notes on the piano as he sang along.
